The PurposeFit Story
In 2014, while expecting baby number two, my family and I moved to Claremont, CA. It was then that I went back to teaching pilates, barre and cardio dance ( sometimes seven days a week ). Our family of three would soon become a family of four and things were feeling busierthan ever. Needless to say, this momma was overwhelmed!
I should tell you, that during this whole season, we had become members of a church called “Purpose Church” … clearly God had plans at work here! I don’t believe in coincidences, but rather moments in life that God uses to get our attention. After the birth of my daughter I was growing increasingly restless. I knew that God must have something bigger for me to be doing, but I wrestled with what my “purpose” was. I kept thinking, “If I only knew what He wanted me to do I would finally feel satisfied”.
As busy as I was…working, raising children, being a wife and friend…everything left me feeling unfulfilled and insignificant.
I didn’t have the first clue what God’s plan for me was, but I did know that if I was ever going to find out I had better get really good at recognizing His voice. So I did just that, I dove into God’s word every morning. I wrote all of my prayers down, and made my quiet time with God a discipline that was non-negotiable in my day. I read, I prayed, I read, I prayed…and then I waited. (that was the hard part )
I began to look at the talents that God had blessed me in a new way. I understood, for the first time, that not using those talents for His glory was quite simply disobedience. Little by little, I was starting to get a vision of what God wanted me to do. The notion of “purpose” was on my mind all day- every day! I kept coming back to it. I set out to take what I knew I was good at,
and apply a new “purpose” to it. And so began the initial concept for PurposeFit.
It didn’t happen overnight, and it hasn’t always been easy, but I knew I was on the right track when all the work that came along with it didn’t feel like “work” anymore. A funny thing happens when you discover your purpose and actively go towards it… all of a sudden your drive begins to match your desire, and you will gladly get up an extra hour early because it means your
getting one step closer to the goal.
In the beginning I had to consistently battle all the ways the “enemy” was trying to convince me I couldn’t do this. Thoughts like “who do you think you are”, “but there are already women in the faith & fitness arena” would pop up regularly. I fought back hard though. I would remind myself of something Shelene Bryan said once that has always stuck with me. “My God is a creator not a duplicator!” That mantra helped me to find my unique footing as a brand and a
I aligned myself with successful women who were doing business the way I wanted to and made it a point to build relationships and to learn from all of them. I couldn’t be more overwhelmed with gratitude that God placed this ministry on my heart. I pray
that it will develop into a wide reaching community of women who are passionately chasing after Jesus and His “Purpose” for their own lives.
